Farren Hart to Coach U19 girls in a Friendly Competition Kicks off in Germany

This will be Farren Hart's second time coaching with the NA Stars. This time she will be visiting more countries. Here is what Farren has to say about the upcoming games.

"I am really looking forward to our trip in March, as being able to
compete against teams in Germany, Austria and Italy will be an
enormous thrill for the coaches, players and parents of the Stars. It
will be interesting to experience a different level of competition in
a unique atmosphere. Go Stars!"

"The group of players joining us for the March Break Stars trip, are a
unique group of players, ranging in ages from 14-17 who are all
currently playing at the AA or A level in the Ottawa area. Often times
the players are competing against each other on their own organizations
teams, so it will be interesting to see the friendships that will form
between competitors!"

"The women's hockey game is an ever changing and continuously
developing world  and it is a privilege to be able to continue
supporting the development of women's hockey by providing young female
hockey players opportunities to explore all of the bonuses the game
has to offer. Traveling abroad and playing teams from other parts of
the world, provides us with the opportunity to see new places, form
new long lasting friendships and truly appreciate everything that this
wonderful game has to offer."

Farren Hart is Director of Female Hockey Development and Head U18 Co-Coach at Canadian International Hockey Academy.  She is also a Regional Assistive Technology Teacher.
Hart graduated from Elmira College in 2008, where she finished 9th on the women's hockey team all-time leading scorers’ list. She was instrumental in the evolution of the school’s reputation as a Division 3 women's hockey national power. During her career, the Soaring Eagles won two ECAC West Championships and appeared twice in the NCAA finals.
Prior to college, she attended the esteemed St. Georges Prep School in Newport, RI where she remains the all- time leading scorer of the girls hockey team. She also played two other varsity sports in addition to hockey.
In addition to her impressive hockey career, she holds her M.S. Ed at Potsdam, NY (2009). Currently, she is one of two Regional Western Assistive Technology Teachers for the Catholic District School Board of Eastern Ontario. She travels throughout the Western side of the board supporting students and staff with Assistive Technology.
We are much honored to have Farren with us as we grow our program. Her coaching philosophy,"To create leaders on the ice, in the classrooms and in the community" is one we admire and is in-line with the environment we have created for these young women. Farren firmly believes and executes this daily as her “ultimate goal is to create a foundation for student-athletes to be productive and prosperous young citizens. Coaches should see and feel a higher purpose of the sport, rather thinking it’s just a game.  No matter what as a coach I will look for opportunities to make a difference in other’s lives and to have a positive effect on a community and its youth. My coaching method is to constantly reach out to engage and inspire student-athletes as players of the game and life.”
"Farren Hart is one of the most focused and determined individuals I have ever known in business and in sports.  She is a born leader who understands what it takes to be successful on and off the ice and we are extremely fortunate to have her at the helm.  Farren is both a coach and a teacher and the North American Stars Women's hockey team will benefit from her positive energy, leadership and knowledge of the game says Challenger Tours/North American Stars President, Bob O'Connell.

A Friendship Bonded Through Hockey

Devyn Fitzhenry and Jessie Campbell, Silver Medalists at the Czech Challenge Cup
No one knew 15 years ago that through their love of hockey, it would bring Devyn Fitzhenry and Jessie Campbell to Prague together again to play hockey.  They both began playing on a boys team 15 years ago and at the time were the only girls on the team. The girls grew up in Gaylord, Michigan and attended Gaylord High School. They make a great team on and off the ice; Jesse plays center and Devyn plays left wing. In addition to hockey, they both play soccer. "Traveling to Europe with Devyn was a blast", says Campbell. Last season was the first time in 4 years that the girls were not on the same team. Campbell added, "It was great to be able to be on the ice together again. It made the trip more enjoyable knowing someone when we got there. It was a great last tournament together."
Devyn and Jessie represented the North American Stars at the Czech Challenge Cup. The team came in second overall earning them the Silver medal. Overall team stats (3-2-1). Both girls played well; Devyn with 2 goals and 3 assists and Jesse 1 goal and assist.

A Thoughtful Poem from Coach Jon Howse

Jon Howse, United Eagles coach, not only is he a talented coach but he is also a poet!

Girls and gumdrops and foreign friends,
The only sadness was the thought of the end.
We talked and toured, drank and sang,
We watched in awe as the Superclock rang.
The Castle towered and the street bled beauty,
We skated and scored and did our duty.
Bronze, silver, inches from gold,
Ladies so gentle yet playing so bold.
Lessons learned and no love lost,
So much gained at such little a cost.
Thank you Czech and thank you God,
Dobry Dobry is the city of Prague.

("Dobry" means good in Czech)

North American Stars Coming Home with the Silver Medal!!

The North American Stars finish 2nd overall in the Czech Challenge Cup. They lost in the championship game 3-0 to the undefeated Skif-Russia.
The girls put forth a great effort in the finals against SKIF. They had some great chances early in the game but could not seem to solve a hot Russian goalie. SKIF scored late in the first period to take a 1-0 lead. The Russians came out flying in the second and scored an early goal to take a 2-0 lead on the power play.  The girls played a tight defensive game throughout.  A third period goal was scored on the power play by Skif. The girls finished the game in style and with great pride.
Congratulations to the North American Stars!

United Eagles Win the Bronze Today, Clinching a 4-3 Win Against the Czech Selects

Congratulations to the United Eagles who won 4-3 today.
The United Eagles capped off the tournament today with their best effort of the week. The team triumphed 4-3 in a barn-burning competition against the Czech selects; a team they lost to 6-2 in their second game of the tourny. The lazer beam emitting from Nicole Browns' stick was to much for the Czech netminder as she blasted 3 goals behind her. Mechy, the Czech co-captain for the Eagles added the other tally. A strong finish to an excellent tournament in beautiful Prague, Czech Republic.

North American Stars off to the Gold Medal Championship Game vs. Skif-Moskva Russia

Well the North American Stars earned their rematch against Skif-Moskva Russia, after clinching a win against HC Atlant Odintsovo-Russia, 13-0.

Associate Coach Tom MacLaren's Recap of Today's Game:
The girls were great today. They responded to all of the challenges that we set out for them. Coach Farren Hart and I were very pleased with the effort and the seriousness that the girls put into the game. Notes: Charron scored 4 goals, Quick scored 3 goals. All players played very well, in order to advance to the final game tomorrow against Skif, the players were under an enormous amount of pressure to score at least 11 goals. They all did a very good job of buying into our teams systems and putting the puck on net and then following the puck to net, to complete the play. The energy and effort never stopped and every player should be extremely proud of the way they played. all players bought into the systems put forth for today's game both offensively, in the neutral zone and defensively. The girls are preparing for tomorrow's big game already and are showing their collective commitment by getting both physically and mentally prepared for the game. We are looking forward to getting a second chance at Skif tomorrow, as we feel we are much more prepared for the level of competition that lies ahead. SKIF is a very talented team and we are looking forward to tomorrows challenge.
